In a world filled with challenges and uncertainties, there are moments that define our purpose and shape our destiny. For Dr. Arjun Poudel, one such moment ignited a passion within him that would go on to change the lives of countless families forever. This is the story of how Dr Poudel’s personal journey led to the establishment of IMpower Healthcare, a revolutionary home healthcare organization that would bridge the gap in healthcare delivery in Nepal for older adults.
It all began when Arjun found himself caught in the midst of a heart-wrenching situation. His beloved father, battling prostate cancer, needed immediate care, but Arjun couldn’t fly back to Nepal due to the Australian government’s international border closure. Arjun tried his best to manage the situation from Australia but, he couldn’t find the comprehensive and compassionate care he desired for his dad. Arjun turned to his relatives for help, but he hesitated to burden them with constant requests, even though they were supportive. The frequent hospital visits in India and follow-ups in Kathmandu were overwhelming for his parents. The weight of the situation took a toll on his mother’s health as well, as she tirelessly cared for his father while battling her own feelings of loneliness and despair.
It was during those challenging times that Arjun wished there was an organization that could provide holistic care and support for his father. Arjun and his sisters had financial stability abroad, so money wasn’t an issue for them. The real challenge lay in finding an organization that could cater to their father’s complex healthcare needs.
In 2022, despite a thriving career and esteemed faculty position in Australia, Arjun made a courageous choice. He returned to Nepal with a determination to make a difference. He was fortunate to spend a few weeks with his father, providing comfort and support during his final moments.
After losing his father to cancer, Arjun’s purpose became clearer. He realized that countless aging parents in Nepal faced similar crises, separated from their children living abroad. Realizing that NRNs (Non-Resident Nepalis) often become long-distance caregivers, Arjun understood the unique struggles faced by those trying to arrange medical and non-medical services for their parents while managing their own lives abroad. It was like living two lives—a constant juggle between personal ambitions and parental responsibilities.
Together with his dedicated colleagues, Arjun is launching IMpower Healthcare to be the most people-centric, credible, and comprehensive home healthcare solution provider in Pokhara, with plans to expand to all major cities in Nepal within the next 3–4 years. This organization aims to be the one-stop platform for expats, ensuring their parents’ healthcare needs are met with compassion and professionalism. With IMpower, the guilt and worries of NRNs will be minimized, allowing them to pursue their dreams while knowing their parents are in safe and loving hands.
This is the story of IMpower Healthcare—an extraordinary journey born out of love, compassion, and the desire to bring families closer even across borders. Join us as we embark on this remarkable adventure, uniting hearts and ensuring that no one faces the challenges of aging alone.
